Dr. Narmin Aliji is board certified in both Child/Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry and provides psychotherapy and medication management to children, adolescents and adults.
She has a keen interest in psychodynamic psychotherapy, trauma-focused psychotherapy and play therapy.
She firmly believes that comprehensive psychiatric treatment that targets both biological as well as psychological factors is the most effective path to truly alleviating emotional suffering. Her belief is that many conditions can be better addressed by treating the person as a whole human being instead of only targeting specific symptoms. She sees her role as an ally to her patients and their quest to understand themselves better and achieve meaningful change in their lives through talk therapy, medications or both. Dr. Aliji feels strongly committed to empowering her patients as they move through life’s difficult experiences. She defines her role as a therapist to create a warm and non-judgmental environment to help her patients feel safe, accepted, and understood. Dr. Aliji’s training as a family systems therapist provides her with a unique lens to help her patients explore the impact of personal, familial, and childhood experiences on a wide range of concerns like anxiety, depression, identity issues, environmental stress, behavioral issues, parenting, substance abuse, divorce, grief, and trauma.
Born and raised in Texas, Dr. Aliji attended Houston Baptist University and received an art scholarship. She acquired a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and Art and was deemed a Dean's List graduate and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Her interest in medicine took her to the West Indies and New York City where she graduated from St. George's University, School of Medicine. Her travels have showed her to be sensitive to the understanding and delivery of health care across different cultures.
Dr. Aliji completed her internship and General Adult Psychiatry residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. She always enjoyed working with children and pursued her Child Psychiatry Fellowship at the Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center. Her research has included collaboration with the departments of Psychiatry and Neurosurgery at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

While pursuing her medical career, it has equally been important for Dr. Aliji to incorporate a healthy lifestyle and continuous learning through exploration of various cultures. In her spare time, she continues her interests in fine arts, yoga/meditation, practicing Indian classical dance and volunteers in initiatives to improve mental health.
