Concierge Psychiatry

Concierge Psychiatry

"Concierge" Psychiatry is a complicated, multi-dimensional term, that is used widely, but often misused or misinterpreted. At South Coast Psychiatry, we strive to set the bar for what outpatient Concierge Psychiatry means in Orange County. We believe that UCLA and UCSD are some of the top academic psychiatric institutions in the country, and in Southern California. We are striving to fill the gap for an outstanding, multidisciplinary clinical group in Orange County, to which patients can come for state of the art, top notch, comprehensive and collaborative mental health care.
While all of our clinical team is exceptionally well-trained, and provides stellar psychiatric and psychological care to our patients, we believe the "Concierge" part extends beyond providing the best possible care...
First, we have assembled the strongest possible group of multidisciplinary clinicians -- including MDs, nurse practitioners, and therapists -- all from a wide variety of backgrounds and educational experiences, all who reach the incredibly high standard for clinical excellence and patient care we require of all our clinicians at South Coast Psychiatry. So, part of our Concierge care means you will be treated by some of the most highly trained, and best clinicians in the OC.
Further, we believe in total access to your treating clinician -- we understand life happens outside the walls of our office, and outside of our appointment times. And your clinician wants to be there for you when it does. That's why, at South Coast Psychiatry, all patients have access to their clinician 24/7, and are given their clinician's email address and cell phone number -- so that if they need to talk in between sessions, or need to connect prior to their next appointment, they have the opportunity to do so. We encourage patients to make us a part of their lives and part of their journey, to not confine their treatment or their recovery to an hour a week (or a half hour every few weeks); we want to be a catalyst for positive change, and a stable, dependable resource for our clients, and we want them to know engaging our services means we are one of their foundations of support going forward.
This is part of our Concierge promise.
But at South Coast Psychiatry, "Concierge" care is more than just excellent clinical care and unparalleled access to your treating clinician.
At South Coast Psychiatry, we are the forefront of providing "Concierge" Care to our patients from the very first interaction -- meaning that from the first time you call, and speak to one of our highly trained administrative staff, when you call to set up an appointment, or get more information, you actually get a live person, who knows our practice, our doctors, and is trained in mental health issues, and can answer any questions or address any concerns you have. You will not get an answering machine when you call our office, or a receptionist who answers who cannot address your needs, or a doctor who waits until the end of the day to answer your message or meet your needs.
At South Coast Psychiatry, we employ three full-time administrative staff at all times, so that the "concierge" care, begins at the very first phone call or email, even before our patients even see their doctor. For our established patients, this administrative team approach means that for any messages they want to relay to their doctors throughout the day are captured and passed along; any appointment changes they need to make, any prescriptions that need to be refilled -- our patients are getting to talk to a live person who is handling their questions or issues right away, with the warmth, care and attention to detail that is a hallmark of our practice from the beginning. As the owner and founder stated in 2007, "I never want patients calling and getting an answering machine every time they call. That would be subpar care, and not consistent with our vision for providing concierge service to our patients." We have held true to that vision ever since.
Additionally, Concierge care means you will feel comfortable and at home in our offices. When you come to South Coast Psychiatry, to our offices next to Crystal Court and South Coast Plaza, you will find that it is beautifully and tastefully furnished. You have come to a place dedicated to the emotional healing of patients, and the peace and tranquility pervade the suite. The waiting room is inviting and comfortable, filled with tasteful classical music and beautiful live orchids, with a large waterfall; water, chocolates, and magazines are provided (as well as coffee, if patients prefer), and from the moment clients enter our offices, they are warmly greeted by one of our highly trained staff members, who helps our patients feel that they are welcomed and have come to a safe place in which to heal.
Further, at South Coast Psychiatry, we think part of what makes us Concierge is that our patients have access to, not only their treating clinician, but to our "Brain Trust" of collaborative care. We strive to work against the outpatient private practice clinician in an office alone, treating patients by themselves, using only their own skills to treat their clients. Instead, we are modelling ourselves after the best academic centers in our collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach to patient care, and are using places like UCLA and the Mayo Clinic as our template. Not only have we formed a multidisciplinary team of clinicians from a wide variety of therapeutic backgrounds, but all of the clinicians at South Coast Psychiatry meet weekly in Peer Supervision meetings to discuss difficult cases, new developments in treatment, to share conference learnings, journal articles, and to collaborate with one another so that they can all share experiences and learning -- so that each patient's care is enhanced beyond each individual clinician's own experience and training. Because we all share an office suite, we all talk to one another throughout the week, "curbside consulting" with each other on a regular basis, in order to continually add to our own wealth of knowledge and resources, and collaborate with one another to enhance our patient's care.
Concierge care means that if your clinician will be out of the office for any reason, you will never be left with an answering machine and a physician who doesn't know your case or your care. At South Coast Psychiatry, we all cover for one another if a clinician will be away from the office, and have access to patient's charts; so if your clinician is out of the office, or on vacation, and you have a clinical need, there will always be a covering clinician with access to your chart, as well as our entire administrative team at your service -- all with a seamless ability to handle any clinical emergencies or any issues that may arise while your treating clinician is away.
So, at South Coast Psychiatry, "Concierge" care means we strive to set the bar in outpatient psychiatric care by providing: the highest levels of customer service, unparalleled warmth and understanding by our administrative and clinical team; a higher level of clinical care offered by clinicians who are among the best in the field at what they do; constant collaboration among highly educated mental health professionals; more seamless coverage when your clinician goes on vacation or is out for any reason; more consistent real-live administrative support; more accessibility to your provider, even outside of sessions; and more dedication and passion from each provider in helping you move forward in your life. We offer individual, couple, family, and group psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, guided imagery, as well as medication management and support.
This is what "Concierge Psychiatry" means at South Coast Psychiatry. We are your one-stop shop for your VIP psychiatric needs in Orange County.
