    South Coast Psychiatry Can Help

South Coast Psychiatry is a true multidisciplinary, mental health concierge outpatient group, founded with the intention of bringing together the best and the brightest clinicians to elevate the standard of psychiatric care in Southern California.
We are proud to have the outpatient practice with some of the most highly trained providers in our field: including doctors who have been educated at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute, the University of Michigan, and USC, and our Nurse Practitioner who directed and taught the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program at CSULB -- among the top institutions for psychiatric training in the country. Our mission is to be a Center for Excellence in Psychiatry -- where the treatment of patients and patient care is the utmost priority, and the care provided rivals that of the top academic institutions.
More importantly, at South Coast Psychiatry, not only are our doctors, nurse practitioner and therapists highly trained, we are also committed to providing the highest level of personalized, concierge-style, collaborative, "brain-trust" standard of care to each and every patient in our practice.

You'll find our clinicians are warm, personable professionals, who excel at communicating and connecting with people, and who are dedicated to helping patients move forward in their lives:
Dr. Britton Ashley Arey, MD, MBA is the founder and CEO of South Coast Psychiatry, and a USC educated, UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute and Cedars Sinai trained, psychiatrist specializing in psychodynamic psychotherapy, executive coaching and medication management for adults. Dr. Arey's expertise is in combining treatment for adults who are struggling in their lives both personally and professionally, and want to help themselves self-actualize in all areas of their lives.
Dr. Huma Qureshi, MD is an general adult psychiatrist specializing in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy for patients with a wide range of psychiatric conditions.  After attending the University of California, Davis, Dr. Qureshi obtained her medical degree at King Edward Medical University, where she earned a First Division distinction. She then completed her psychiatric training at the University of Missouri, Kansas City (UMKC), where she had the honor of working in close collaboration with instructors trained from Menninger Foundation.
Shirley Furman, BA, BSN, MA, MSN, PMHNP  is a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from CSULB, Certified Hypnotherapist, and previous director/instructor at the PMHNP Program at CSULB. She has expertise in psychotherapy, medication management and hypnotherapy. She uses these unique combinations of techniques as options for treatments with adults, adolescents and children (without medication for children). She brings a wealth of expertise in insomnia, smoking cessation, stress reduction, anxiety, panic attacks, fears and phobias, grief and loss, parenting issues, pregnancy related issues as well as menopausal issues.

As medical doctors trained in psychiatry, our psychiatrists and nurse practitioner can work with you to identify the biological and psychosocial treatments that can help your particular situation. Our well-trained clinicians can provide not only thorough biopsychosocial assessments and evaluations, but are unique among their field in that they are experts in both psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.
At South Coast Psychiatry, our entire group is dedicated towards the idea that mental health care does not have to be fragmented, and that all clinicians who are working to help the same individual should be communicating and collaborating constantly -- which we can do when we are all housed in the same center. No more worrying about your psychiatrist and your therapist not communicating with one another -- at South Coast Psychiatry, if they aren't the same person, they will be in neighboring offices, working closely together, and communicating on at least a weekly basis about how best to help you move forward with your life. We've found this type of integrative, collaborative care gives our patients not only the highest level of care, but also allows them to make the most progress in their treatment: with a team committed to putting their heads together to help every patient move forward in their journey and their lives.
In addition to our clinical expertise, all of our clinicians also have organizational and business experience/expertise. Our providers all understand and routinely coach executives in organizational dynamics, management skills and leadership issues. Thus, at South Coast Psychiatry, we can help you transcend your therapy to identify dynamics and implement changes that can help you succeed both personally and professionally.
We are a Concierge Style Psychiatric Practice, which means we cater our care to each person's individual needs, providing far more than simply "medication checks." We do not believe in the 10-15 minute med check; the minimum visit with our physicians and nurse practitioner is 30 minutes long, and all of our MDs and nurse practitioner do psychotherapeutic work in our sessions with each and every one of our clients. All of our clinicians also offer psychotherapy to their patients; and when our prescribers are not the lead clinician performing psychotherapy, we work closely with our therapist colleagues in our group (or outside our group) to address each patient's biopsychosocial needs. We believe it is very important to ensure the person who is prescribing your medication is working closely and collaboratively with the person who is working with you for therapy, and we will do everything in our power to make that possible.
At South Coast Psychiatry, you can be seen by a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner for medication management/psychotherapy, a therapist for therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, or group therapy, as well as our nurse practitioner for augmentation with hypnotherapy. We pride ourselves on the wide array of clinical offerings we can provide patients in the outpatient setting, and can tailor an outpatient treatment program all the way to a modified Intensive Outpatient Program to fit any patient's needs.
Further, all of our clinicians are available to our patients outside of the sessions, via email or phone, if needed. So, as a patient of South Coast Psychiatry, you'll never feel that your journey is confined to the walls of our offices, or the hour of your visit. We believe life happens outside of our suite, and often outside the time of our appointments -- and our clinicians want to be there for you when it does. That's why all of our patients have our providers' cell phone numbers and email addresses -- so the journey is one that we travel together from the moment you become a patient at SCP.
At South Coast Psychiatry, you'll find all of our clinicians and our entire administrative staff are committed to enhancing the lives of our patients, and you will rarely get an answering machine if calling within business hours. We employ three full time administrative staff so that while our clinicians are seeing patients, your needs are being attended to as much as possible by our attentive and well-trained staff. You will not be waiting all day for a medication refill or an appointment reschedule. Our staff is second to none in helping patients schedule appointments, obtaining insurance reimbursement for out of network mental health benefits, and in making sure every patient's needs are addressed as quickly and comprehensively as possible.
Simply put, South Coast Psychiatry is proud to provide the highest, most comprehensive, and most personalized standard of care in psychiatry in Orange County.
